Sam Barr

It is with great sadness we annouce that Sam Barr passed away in Gloucester Hospital on Saturday 30th April 2011, after a prolonged period of health issues.

We are extremely grateful for the wonderful care provided for Sam by the nursing staff. He was still very much himself and was even able to provide some constructive and helpful training advice to one of the nurses, who was having problems with her horse...how very typical of Sam!!

Sam has touched the lives of so many people, for whom he will be greatly missed. Our thoughts are with Linda and his family. Sam's funeral will be held at 2pm on Tuesday 10th May at Hartpury Church and then back to the farm. All are very welcome.

Though a time of great sadness, Sam has lived a very full life and leaves behind the great Welton dynasty.

Tribute to Welton Ambassador

The many friends of the Advanced Event Stallion WELTON AMBASSADOR will be very sad to hear that he was put down on Dec. 31st 2010 at the age of 25.

As a 2yr old he won the Sports Horse Section of the BWB Stallion Grading and went on to have a brilliant, but short Eventing Career with Leslie Law, being Advanced at the end of his 6th year.

By Welton Louis, his dam Minerva was a full sister to Ginny Elliot's great horse Nightcap ( Ben Faerie ) Ambassador had a wonderful character, with a typical Welton temperament.

Of the many horses he sired, a good percentage became Advanced and his very first mating as a 2yr old, to Bridget Parker's Cornish Faere (not sure if spelling correct ) produced Cornish Envoy who was placed 6th at Burghley.

He has stock all around the world and has certainly been a true Ambassador, and will be much missed.

Breeding Still Counts

As we approach the 50th Anniversary of starting The Welton Stud and as a small reminder that BREEDING STILL COUNTS.......

Despite the loss of Welton Crackerjack 8yrs ago, his influence still prevails. Particularly being the Sire of UPLEADON who Won Bramham CIC*** in 2009 and has now finished 5th at Blenheim CCI*** ridden by Neil Spratt and bred locally to us by Audrey Brewer.

Also at Blenheim a VERY exciting 2nd place in the 8/9yr old class for Sarah Cohen and TREASON......owned and bred by Vin Jones, sired by the famous HAND in GLOVE and his dam WELTON LADY ( who is by Welton Crackerjack) and she was a previous winner of the 5yr old BYEH class and an Intermediate Event Mare.

Sarah quote of Treason........" he jumps, he gallops and has an amazing brain".

For Sam Barr having just recently celebrated his 90th birthday, it gives great pleasure to realise welton Blood continues to feature in so many horses throughout the world.
