Welton Apollo PDF Print E-mail

Welton ApolloWelton Apollo was purchased in 1975 as a foal from his breeder Ann Clapham of the New Forest. This was to replace Welton Gameful who earlier that year had so tragically been put down. Apollo was technically T.B. but could not go in the full stud book as his dam had not been recognised at the appropriate time with Weatherbys. She was an Intermediate event mare Water Rights, by Game Rights.

Apollo was another to inherit the wonderful temperament of his father and in some ways could almost be said to be too laid back.

Welton Apollo at BurghleyHe proved to be amazingly sound, competing at top level into his 16th year and regularly posting the fastest XC times.

He is the only stallion to have completed Badminton three times in consecutive years (8th in 1989) and also represented the GB team at Burghley in the European Championships (also in 1989).

Apollo produced many successful event horses and was a particularly excellent cross on pony mares. The combination of Apollo and a 12.2hh Oakley Bubbling Springs pony mare produced Fairdinkum, who grew to a bare 15hh and had a staggering performance record in all disciplines from Pony Club, through dressage to being individual and team gold medalist at the Junior European 3-day Event.Fairdinkum

Welton Camelia and Welton Jazz are two most successful 14.2hh.

Towards the end of his life, we used him on lovely Crackerjack mare Baby Welton and produced the colt Welton Adonis.
