Welton Louis PDF Print E-mail

He was the first colt to be kept by Welton Gameful. His dam was an Irish Grade A show jumper, who was a prolific breeder of event horses. Her very first foal Welton Gazelle is the dam of Summersong (Entire who completed Badminton with Marie Christine Duroy and stands in France) and also the dam of Catherston Dazzler (advanced dressage horse) and sire of some very successful event horses. Welton Louis with Pammy Hutton

Louis always showed great character, charisma and inherited from his mother a huge, blazing eye.

Aloaf, by Welton Louis. European team member 4th Burghley 1984 He was started in his eventing career by Sam (also the very first horse that Sam evented, at the ripe age of 50)! They had a lot of fun and enjoyed success together before he was handed over to Pammy Hutton (Sivewright, as she was then). Together they struck up a wonderful partnership over many years, both competing in horse trials to advanced level and then in pure dressage to Prix St. George.

In 1978, at their first attempt, they won the medium dressage championships and in 1980 won the Open Spillers Combined Training at Wembley.

When Louis retired from competition, Pammy had great fun using him as her top schoolmaster and also giving us a great thrill at our open days each year; once teaching him to perform in side saddle attire with Pammy's young son, Charlie, acting as pas de deux on a tiny shetland mare. Her piece de resistance on those occasions was to jump a single white rail at almost 5ft - in full dressage outfit. Welton Lightfoot, winner of Wyle 3-day. Full Brother to Louis

Louis sired many successful event horses, the most illustrious being Welton Romance - Open European Champion 1995.
